Developing Graphic Principles
What we did: Re-brand a local Bristol charity with a full stationary set and 3 other promotional material

What I ended up doing: Pretty much what I was asked to do. My 3 other bits of promotional material were a leaflet, a donation slip and an awareness poster

What I thought of it all?: I didn't have a CLUE what to do at first, I really struggled coming up with an idea to develop untill my teacher gave me a push in the right direction ^^; Once I came up with an idea I was okay XD Although my designs didn't win the prize that was assiocated with this moduel D:

Typography
What we did: Design a font and then turn it into typography posters

What I ended up doing: I designed a circular font and designed typography posters that I thought were what we were ment to be doing...

What I thought of it all?: ...but apparantly, the teacher of this moduel didn't like any of my stuff. As I thought during the whole of it since he never said anything nice about any of it. So naturally I ended up hating typography and got a crappy mark ¬_¬

Editorial Design
What we did: Design a masthead, front cover and at least 2 dobule page spreads for a made up magazine

What I ended up doing: I did as I was told, but I ended up designing 4 double page spreads.

What I thought of it all?: I really liked editorial design :) I actually took alot of inspiration from manga/comics infact in what I did with the images. It wasn't perfect (as my teacher pointed out, some of my text placement was a bit awkward) but it got me my best mark :D



And there we go, that was my first year! Some moduels were better than others obviously as that what happens with any course like this. But we shall see how the next year goes! ^^

Well, I said that I'd talk a bit about my graphic design stuff, so I thought I'd start off by going through what moduels we did in my first year! For those who don't know, I am doing a Foundation Degree in Graphic Design with Interactive Multimedia at the City of Bristol College.

Lets start at the beginning shall we? I'll split this into 2 parts and write the 2nd half when I can be bothered again XD

Graphic principles
What we did: Basic introduction to graphic design and branding (logo, album and vinyl cover) a made-up band of your choice

What I ended up doing: My band was an Orchestra that played video game music (lol!) and I named it "Virtual Harmony".  The logo was pixel-y and the album cover followed on with this theme.

What I thought of it all?: Wasn't sure what I was doing most of the time to be honest or how much work I was supposed to be doing! Learned that I should do alot more but I got a good mark regardless and it was a nice introduction to the rest of the course.

Multimedia principles
What we did: Basic introduction to website making tools/programs and making a website about you and your work

What I ended up doing: My website was a mix of vector and pixel website styles (we had a number to pick from) and was rather simple in design

What I thought of it all?: Again, this was was the beginning of the year and I still wasn't sure how much work I was supposed to be doing. I kind of wish I'd put more work into my website as I felt it was rather lacking compared to others in the class. Still, I got a good mark mainly because mine was actually working in all the right places XD

Visual culture - practical
What we did: A bunch of random arty stuff

What I ended up doing: A bunch of random arty stuff

What I thought of it all?: Errr... like everyone else in the class, I thought this was the most pointless moduel ever. Plus we never had any guidence on what we were actually doing this for or what it had to do with anything. I got a rubbish mark (for reasons I don't understand as I couldn't tell how my work was any different from anyone else's) but really, I don't care XD

Visual culture - learning
What we did: Got taught stuff about different periods of art XD

What I ended up doing: I wrote and essay on Persona 4 and did a presentation on CLAMP >_> Thats MY visual culture 8D

What I thought of it all?: What could have been a very boring and dull moduel wasn't because of our very funny lecturer! He was very nice as well so the presenation wasn't as scary as it could have been XD

So this is my very first journal on here! Hurray!

...But I don't know how to do anything, there's so many features! XD Why do you get to have so many avatars/icons??

Let's hope that I keep up this journal and not abandon it when I get too lazy to write anymore like other websites (Gamespot and DeviantArt in particular). I might use this to write about some of the Graphic Design work I do at uni as I know some of the others in class use other website blogs to do so >_>
